About Mentorship Conversations
AKAD Mentorship Conversations series connect distinguished peers, leaders & professionals to students. Persons enjoying success in leadership, career development, community service and personal growth – and happy to share from the same.
This session will feature Lennox Ochieng, whose profile is shared here. He will be sharing practical wisdom, personal stories, and transformative lessons - especially for those keen on studies abroad, and specifically in the United States of America on scholarship.
In keeping with our AKAD tradition, attendees will engage Socratically in open dialogue; asking questions to gain clarity and understanding of the academic parthways for admission, the value and place of leadership excellence, and the opportunities for career success thereafter. This is especially for those passionate about the principles of top, world class institutional admissions, scholarships preparation (SAT etc) for elite locations and schools in the United States of America.
Our aim
To impact, inspire, influence, empower & cultivate a culture personal & community leadership success for those within our current educational schools - with a clear vision and pathway for similar success as they pursue their vision, mission, goals, purpose and calling.
You attend these sessions to engage; not to sit back and be entertained.
Our seminars aim at helping provide the skills to identify & strengthening overall intelligence for academic, career & life success. Not just cramming from books for paper grades.
When students are rushed through academics, they lack knowledge & courage to confidently identify their core strengths; personal gifts, talents, skills and abilities. This is best matched with relevant & available emerging and future career opportunities - making better, informed academic & career choices in keeping with "God's will which is good, acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2). We therefore "perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6)

JEFFERSON N. KANGACHA
Jeff Kangacha is an Agricultural Economist, a social entrepreneur and a technology optimist.
As a fourth-generation smallholder farmer, Jeff is passionate about how emerging technologies can empower small-scale farmers to revolutionize the food and agricultural systems of developing economies. The focal point of his interest in the agri-food system is at the nexus of socio-economic empowerment, digital innovation and sustainable development. Jeff has multidisciplinary work experience spanning over five years in research, social entrepreneurship and consulting.
Primarily, his work involves applying evidence-based research, systems thinking and data driven strategy in the development of social innovations in frontier and emerging markets. Currently, Jeff works at MIT’s Poverty Action Lab as a Research and Policy Associate with the Digital Identification and Finance Initiative in Africa (DigiFI), where he leads funding and policy scoping efforts to explore how digital IDs and digital payments can drive financial inclusion.
Jeff pursued his bachelor’s degree at Cornell University where he graduated as a Laidlaw Leadership and Research Scholar with a dual degree in International Agriculture and Computing & Information Sciences. As a research fellow at the Cornell Institute of Digital Agriculture, Jeff has been explored how mobile based platforms and data-driven technologies are facilitating access to farm inputs, micro-finance and agricultural extension services for smallholder farmers in East Africa. Based on the applied research over the course of his undergraduate career, Jeff is in the nascent stages of building a stealth social enterprise to democratize financial services. The initiative is exploring a nature-based approach in developing credit profiles to unlock the access to capital for unbanked smallholder farmers.
Prior to joining Cornell University, Jeff co-founded the Eden Hub - an agribusiness enterprise in controlled environment agriculture. Besides leading technical and business operations of hydroponic production systems, Jeff established a social impact initiative within E-Hub to support lunch feeding programs in local primary schools. Additionally, he curated an apprenticeship program for high school youth to engage in skill-based and experiential learning on climate-smart agriculture.
Outside his work in social entrepreneurship, Jeff also has experience as a technology and strategy consultant in regenerative agriculture and the circular economy. As a product development consultant for Sanergy Collaborative, Jeff supported the conceptualization of a digital platform to facilitate how farmers and agro-dealers access regenerative farm inputs. Further, he was the lead strategist in co-developing a memorandum for the PELUM Agro-ecology Network; to inform the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in Kenya on climate finance and the investment priorities of smallholder farmers.
Beyond agriculture, Jeff also serves in think tanks to amplify youth movements creating systemic change. At the AKAD Group, Jeff serves as a peer mentor, empowering students to navigate post-secondary education opportunities and broaden their horizons through gap year programs and study abroad experiences. As a technology consultant for SAP, Jeff supported the revitalization of the Africa Code Week (ACW) program to expand its reach across Sub-Saharan Africa. Further, he contributed to development of the ACW mobile app to facilitate digital skills literacy training for high school youth. In addition, Jeff served as the inaugural President of Teennation Africa (2018 - 2020) where he managed a portfolio of campaigns in Kenya and Nigeria to promote the inclusion of youth in political leadership and the development of socio-economic policy. Jeff has been recognized as a 2018 Global Teen Leader by We Are Family Foundation, a Harvard Social Collaborative Innovation Finalist, a 2019 Fowler Global Social Innovation Finalist, an African Young Leadership Fellow, a COP28 Youth Delegate and Lead Delegate for 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
