PROBLEM:

Youth in schools suffer from these key challenges & problems;

  • Youth lack of confidence!
  • Lack of intentional mentors in academic, career & life-skills preparation for success.
  • Need for clarity in academic & career success pathways
  • Lack of strategic preparation for admissions to top, world class universities e.g. Ivy League Schools
  • Few intentional & strategic leadership youth development programs
  • “Work Ready” skills for youth on graduation
  • Real entrepreneurship development in youth!

SOLUTION

Few programs specifically introduce these concepts to youth who therefore lack knowledge in identifying their gifts, abilities, talents, skills & passions. These help to best match the same with available, realistic career opportunities.

Most career decisions are usually made purely on academic grades &  college placement, and often disappoint. This includes pure guess-work, peer, parental pressure & media exposure. Such totally ignoring basics of one's capacities, abilities, motivation for long term sustainable success and possible options.

Purely academic based examination systems are a poor measurement of a student’s retentive, analytical, moral and  intelligences - from emotional, social, adversarial and other. Yet these are the culturally accepted standard used in eliminating students when in competition for limited academic based career opportunities. As a result, Life-skills needed to success are not instilled in time, one has to find out the hard way, through "the school of hard knocks".

Change is a given. An effective leader needs to anticipate, strategize for and enable self, organisations and community to proactively navigate change. And at best, LEAD the change.

Leadership is best rewarded by managing, pioneering & leading change. Our youth seminars introduce youth as potential future leaders to better understand, address, embrace, manage & lead change as a positive process in the pursuit of their lifetime vision, mission and goals.

Graca Weche

As a teenager in the 21st century I stand out due to my passion for art and extracurricular involvement has enabled me to develop a pretty well rounded skill set. Everything  I do has come from a place of passion and pursuit to ensure everything I do is a representation of the in depth person that I am. I aspire to encourage individuality in people. My dedication is coupled with my skills I learnt from AKAD  Africa , I learnt how to be a leader and how to talk with people. My social skills especially is what I lean on to spread individuality amongst my peers.

Currently I am still in high school I am in my 3rd form about to complete high school. I am an active high school student deeply involved in extracurricular activities. I can say I do relatively well in my studies with particular interest in subjects like chemistry and biology which I believe will lay a strong foundation for my future aspirations . Beyond academics, I love to swim and play tennis. I have been a swimmer since I was as young as six years old. I actively participate in these two sports and is one of the best swimmers at my school Happyland Girls Senior School.  Especially with swimming I have developed teamwork skills that have enabled me to relate better with my peers and those older than me.

I have been an active member of the AKAD Mentorship Group since around the age of 7 years old .It has been a transformative experience. Being introduced to AKAD at an early age enriched my understanding of the world schools and career choices in life. Through AKAD mentorship programme I have had the opportunity to interact with mentors. These interactions have broadened my understanding of careers, school, negotiation and most of all how to present one self, the mentorship sessions have helped me with critical thinking and problem solving skills, which are invaluable in my academic and personal growth.

Through AKAD, I have had a lot of exposure to different career options. Looking ahead I am leaning more into architecture and any biochemistry field .My current goal is to excel in my high school exams and secure a place at a good university. In the long term, I also aspire to pursue interior design where I can use my creative mind and art passion to contribute meaningfully to the people around me. I am very passionate in all I do and make sure to be my most authentic self in everything thing that I do.

AKAD has helped my shape my aspirations and producing me with tools and guidance needed to achieve them. I know for sure with the continued support from my father (Dr Julius Weche) and of the AKAD mentors, I will be able to accomplish my dreams and make a positive difference in the world.
